Drop-in Information Session – Monday March 7

There will be a drop-in session for parents/guardians from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7 at the school and a booth will be set up at Parent/Guardian Interview evening on Thursday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Student Information Sessions for MSL

The student information sessions for the Mentored Self-Paced Learning program at Midland Secondary School were held yesterday and today in conjunction with the course selection assemblies in the library and the cafeteria. As is the case with change, initial feelings were mixed among the student population, with teachers fielding questions about the program. Student, parent and teacher visits to an Ontario, self-directed learning model school are planned for next week to expose participants to the program in operation.

Information Session – Monday, February 28th @ 7:00 pm

All parents and guardians are invited to attend an information session on Monday, February 28 at 7:00 pm to present Mentored Self-Paced Learning (MSL). MSL is a learning environment that supports students through mentoring, self-pacing and personalized instruction and programming. Teachers serve as a caring adult, who mentor and guide, while stressing collaboration and high expectations. MSL engages students who learn at different rates through personalized instruction and programming that presents students with choices on how they approach learning activities.

This proven model, currently running in the province and across Canada, increases student engagement in learners of all types (locally developed, applied, academic, workplace, college and university). Increased teacher support and greater individualized instruction and programming ensures that students are more engaged in the school community and flourish in an atmosphere of caring and understanding. This setting better prepares students for the world of work and post secondary education. Please join us as we explore implementation of this model at Midland Secondary School in September 2011.
